About Cartizan

Founded in Winnipeg, Canada, Cartizan is a resource for quality, local, handmade stuff and those who make it and buy it. We are all about community!

We believe you can stay true to your fabulous style and still support the local economy. Right in your community are talented people who sew, make stationary, build furniture repurpose vintage objects and much more! Become a responsible consumer by buying from these people you know (or will get to know) instead of products made by 7 year olds in sweat shops. You can support your local economy of talented retirees, stay-at-home moms and dads, students and full time artisans by buying from one of our Artizans. Meet our Artizans through our Featured Artizan section or in person when you see them at an Advertised Sale.

We love it when you contribute, so if you have an idea for the site, an Artizan you’d like to nominate for our Featured Artizan section, or an article you’d like to contribute let us know at info@cartizan.com. We love our Advertisers and Sponsor Artizans, so if you want a little more visibility just let us know and we’ll hook you up!

Kristin Johnson, Owner & Editor.
A Winnipeg native, (who doesn’t say “eh”) she loves icy, crisp winter days, sauerkraut & perogies, Saskatoon berries and year-round hikes at Bird’s Hill Park. She’s the eldest of a family of four, but being a twin let her shirk her role of “first born” to her more disciplined twin sister, in favour of a life less pre-planned. Being raised in an “artsy” home helped her gain an appreciation of all things handmade and set her on a path dabbling in pottery, stained glass, and photography. Mother of three little boys and wife to one lucky dude, she fills her house with costumes, puppets, books and craft projects. In the summer her kitchen smells of hot bubbling jam which is continually on the go, and though she swore she’d never drive a mini van, she does anyway.
